There is a better way to work toward improvement where everyone wins.

Win-Win offers real-world strategies to education leaders of improvement, based on Demings’ System of Profound Knowledge. A leader of improvement does not need to be expert in the four components of profound knowledge, but they do need to understand the basic theory, their interconnectedness, and why they are necessary for these efforts. Win-Win provides this basic understanding. This book equips the reader with the knowledge and skills needed to harness the power of the System of Profound Knowledge to improve the performance of schools systems, students, and teachers. It can be used in a variety of classrooms in Colleges of Education, and it is the perfect teaching tool in professional development efforts.

John A. Dues

Over the last two decades, I’ve served on the founding teams of seven odds-beating school and nonprofit teams. We’ve done good work in these schools.

But, I began to notice that the education reform movement is littered with big ideas that are rolled out fast and big only to be abandoned a few years later.

The people on the ground don’t have the systems and processes necessary to make the ideas work in practice. Left in this never-ending wake of good intentions are hard-working educators with initiative fatigue.

Then, I discovered a better way through two Eureka moments.

In 2015, I started learning how to use improvement science methods and tools. In 2020, I discovered W. Edwards Deming’s System of Profound Knowledge. This discovery lit such a fire that I spent the next 31 months researching and writing a book on this powerful management philosophy.

My approach is now built on a simple hypothesis.

I believe that a sound philosophy must serve as the foundation for all attempts at improvement.

Since those two Eureka moments, I’ve made it my mission to learn the science of improvement and to develop methods that work in real classrooms and schools.

This study has been transformational.

If you are ready to transform your organization, let’s work together to make that happen.
